Why use a UV filter?

Many photographers leave UV filters on their lenses semi-permanently. UV filters are long-pass filters that block and cut the UV wavelength range, only transmitting the visual spectrum of light that can be seen with the human eye. A UV filter reduces haze and glare, maintains image contrast and sharpness, and reduces the bluish colour cast, with the added benefit of protecting your camera lens from scratches, dust and damage.
